Empowering Families Services

Empowering Families Services at our Family Resource Center offers parenting workshops, fun activities for children, support groups, exercise classes and community events for the whole family.

Empowering Families provides a variety of activities and workshops to help children and parents communicate effectively and take advantage of established social support to promote child well-being, and prevent child maltreatment and the recurrence of abuse.

Free community events connect families to resources and activities. Parenting workshops offer a safe environment where parents can share their experiences and learn they are not alone in their struggles. Parents who complete workshops exhibit greater knowledge of positive discipline techniques, an increase in parental empathy and a decreased belief in corporal punishment.

Parenting curriculum currently offered include:

Make Parenting a Pleasure – The greatest value of Make Parenting a Pleasure is the opportunity for parents to take a break from the stresses of their day-to-day lives and build on already existing parenting skills while making friends.  Parents participate in activities that relieve stress, increase positive communication and develop self-care skills in a fun, learning environment.

Nurturing Parenting Program – This program has proven results for enhancing self-worth, empathy and empowerment. Join the thousands of families world-wide who have experienced the excitement of learning, having fun and growing closer as a family.   School-Age Children workshops are available throughout the year.

Empowering Families views families as partners and strongly encourages peer support and leadership opportunities. One of our parent leaders shares her passion for healthy lifestyles by facilitating exercise classes to the community.  Another parent leader shares her love for reading with children in the “Wanna Play” workshop.  A group of parent leaders host a monthly activity called “Keeping Culture Alive” at our Family Resource Center.  The group showcased different cultures every month to expose children to sights, sounds and tastes of our diverse community. Every year,

PlayCare is offered FREE for many workshops and events. PlayCare is a place where the children (many for the first time) learn appropriate classroom social behavior and how to interact with adults other than their parents in a fun, safe learning environment.
