Effective Parenting Services

Effective Parenting Services at our Family Resource Center offers parenting workshops, fun activities for children, support groups, exercise classes and community events for the whole family.

Effective Parenting provides a variety of activities and workshops to help children and parents communicate effectively and take advantage of established social support to promote child well-being, and prevent child maltreatment and the recurrence of abuse.

Free community events connect families to resources and activities. Parenting workshops offer a safe environment where parents can share their experiences and learning they are not alone in their struggles. Parents who complete workshops exhibit greater knowledge of positive discipline techniques, an increase in parental empathy and a decreased belief in corporal punishment.

Parenting curriculum currently offered include:

Nurturing Parenting Program – This program has proven results for enhancing self-worth, empathy and empowerment. Join the thousands of families world-wide who have experienced the excitement of learning, having fun and growing closer as a family.   Infant/Toddler, Fathers, School-Age Children and Prenatal workshops are available throughout the year.

Make Parenting a Pleasure – The greatest value of Make Parenting a Pleasure is the opportunity for parents to take a break from the stresses of their day-to-day lives and build on already existing parenting skills while making friends.  Parents participate in activities that relieve stress, increase positive communication and develop self- care skills in a fun, learning environment.

Dare To Be You – This series is designed for the parent and child to participate in different rooms while learning about the same information in age appropriate ways.   Through parent group activities and parent-child activities this program promotes a positive world view, belief in the future, working towards goals and the development of a positive self-image.

Effective Parenting views families as partners and strongly encourages peer support and leadership opportunities. One of our parent leaders shares her passion for healthy lifestyles by facilitating exercise classes to the community.  Another parent leader facilitates the Women in Action workshop where women connect with each other through fun activities and also learn how to budget. This parent leader also shared her love for reading with children in the Tiny Tots workshop.  A group of parent leaders received a grant through First 5 Sacramento to host a monthly activity called “Keeping Culture Alive” at our Family Resource Center.  The group showcased different cultures every month to expose children to sights, sounds and tastes of our diverse community.

At our Family Fun Night, children have opportunities to develop their social and academic skills. Family Fun Night includes dinner which provides an opportunity for families to spend quality time together while meeting other families leading them to a wider peer network. Each family also received a book to take home promoting reading at home.
